Chase away the last of winter and celebrate Baba Marta! Bring your friends, family and dancing shoes; finger food or a beverage is welcome!
People of the Balkans celebrate a centuries-old tradition in early March on the day of Baba Marta (Grandma March), a cranky old lady of whom it is said that the sun only comes out when she smiles. Many tales of Baba Marta are in Balkan folklore, and there is a tradition of giving your friends matenitsas - amulets of red-and-white interwoven strings to bring them health and happiness during the year and as a reminder that spring is near.
